Morgan Sindall / Northumberland Line Project
Since autumn 2023, I have been working as project photographer for Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, documenting their construction of six new train stations on the Northumberland Line. This project aims to reopen the line, that will connect to towns up the east coast of Northumberland, running from Newcastle upon Tyne to Ashington. My role has involved capturing the progress of the construction, the people involved, and various community engagement initiatives. This project has allowed me to not only document the build but also engage with the local community, including running photography workshops for school children in Ashington.
As a photographer, this project has been an incredible learning experience. Working with construction professionals has given me insight into a field I hadn't explored before and I have enjoyed getting to know the team and understanding their work, as well as engaging with the public around the construction sites, and the challenges that brings! Planning for difficult conditions, like overnight shoots or cold winter weather, has tested and hopefully sharpened my skills, making me a more versatile photographer. Not only have I expanded my technical abilities, but I have also enriched my experience in working with diverse groups of people and I am excited to continue learning and growing as we move into the next phase of the project.
